Thoughts on digital transformation, technology, leadership, productivity, and book reviews

Hi, I’m Ian Phoenix, Director of Intelligence & Digital at the FCA and a passionate advocate for Digital Transformation and Technology Leadership.

I joined the FCA in the Summer of 2021 to help set up a cross-FCA centre of excellence, making the FCA get the best out of its digital opportunities. I was Director of Citizens’ Health Technology at NHS Digital before coming to the FCA and was instrumental in the UK National Health Service (NHS) response to COVID-19.

I’ve also worked at the Home Office, overseeing the largest migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platforms in the world in 2018, as well as overseeing the digitalisation and transformation of the UK Immigration & Visa digital platforms during Brexit.

I spent many years in national security with expertise in data exploitation, analytics, and visualisations, and have held senior roles at Citibank, American Express and Visa.

I have always been passionate about technology and its potential to transform businesses and society. This background, combined with my experience in leading digital transformation initiatives, has given me a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

I am looking forward to writing a series of blog posts and articles with a focus on digital transformation, technology, leadership, and productivity. As someone with a background in data and a passion for using technology to effect change, I believe that I have something valuable to share with others who are working to make their organisations more agile and adaptive. I’m also keen to learn from other people who have faced similar challenges.

In my posts, I will explore various aspects of digital transformation, including the role of data in driving change, the importance of culture and organisational design, and the challenges and opportunities associated with leading digital and business transformations.

Previously, my writing has covered a wide range of topics related to business efficiency and digital transformation. In particular, I have written about how businesses can use data and cloud technology to save millions of dollars each year. I have also written about my experience with migration from legacy platforms to services like Amazon, and how companies can use data to maximise their staff’s expertise. In each case, my goal has been to provide valuable insights that can help businesses improve their operations and better serve their customers.

I hope that my insights will be helpful to those who are charting a course for their own organisations in this ever changing and technologically driven modern world of ours.

We have an exciting future ahead of us. I can’t wait to share my thoughts.

Here are some additional things about me that you might find interesting:

  • I am a big fan of data visualization and storytelling. I believe that data can be used to tell powerful stories that can help us understand the world around us and make better decisions.
  • I am also a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. I believe that a diverse workforce is a stronger workforce, and I am committed to working to create a more inclusive industry.
  • I am a lifelong learner and I am always looking for new ways to learn and grow. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences with others, and I believe that we can all learn from each other.

I hope that you will join me on this journey as we explore the world of digital transformation and technology leadership. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and insights with you.
